Caring for Your Eyeglasses: Tips and Tricks for Owners

As an owner of eyewear, one of the most important things you can do is to take good care of your investment. Having eyeglasses that has been scratched, damaged, or dirty can not only be unattractive but can also negatively affect your vision. Whether you have prescription glasses, sunnies, or reading glasses, it's important to know how to care for them to ensure they last as long as possible. In this article, we'll give you some tips and tricks for caring for your eyewear.

Clean Your Eyeglasses Daily

The most basic thing you can do to care for your eyeglasses is to clean them daily. Dirt, oil, and smudges can accumulate on the lenses, which can make it difficult to see clearly. Use a microfiber cloth or lens cleaning wipes to wipe the lenses and frames gently. Avoid using tissues, paper towels, or your clothes, as they can scratch the lenses. Also, never use hot water or abrasive materials to clean your glasses.

Store Your Eyeglasses Properly

When not in use, make sure to place your eyeglasses in a case to protect them from scratches and damage. Avoid storing them in humid areas like the bathroom, as moisture can build up on the lenses. If you don't have a case, fold the arms and store them in a safe and dry place.

Adjust and Tighten Your Eyeglasses

If your glasses are loose or feel uncomfortable, visit your optometrist or eyeglass store, such as Hurst Jewelry and Eyewear to have them adjusted. Loose glasses can slide down your nose, put pressure on your ears, and cause discomfort. Also, make sure that the screws are tight, as loose screws can cause parts of your glasses to break or fall off.

Use Ultrasonic Cleaners for Deep Cleaning of Eyeglasses

In addition to daily cleaning, occasional deep cleaning can help to remove dirt and bacteria that have built up on your glasses. Ultrasonic cleaners use high-frequency sound waves to loosen dirt and grime from your eyeglasses easily. These cleaners are typically available at your local optometrist/eyewear store. We've been using ultrasonic cleaners at Hurst Jewelry and Eyewear since their inception.

Protect Your Eyeglasses from Damage

Accidents happen, but there are some steps you can take to protect your eyeglasses from damage. Avoid placing them on the table or in your pocket when they're not in use, as they can easily break or get scratched. Wear protective eyewear if you're playing sports or doing any activity that may be risky for your glasses.

By following these tips and tricks, you can keep your eyeglasses clean and in good condition for a long time. Caring for your eyewear is not just about maintaining its aesthetic appeal but also about ensuring clear vision and preventing damage. Make sure to follow each step carefully to maintain the quality of your glasses. You can see more comfortably and confidently when your glasses are in good condition.
